I tweeted this last night, but I'll say it again here: I'm kind of embarrassed to think about how much Survivor affects my weeks. It's probably my favorite show overall on TV. And that's say something. I'm still kind of stunned that certain people don't watch it (Bill). I'm even more excited about this season because I already know most of the people involved. Before I get into the actual episode, here are my favs / the people I'm rooting for (in no particular order):

  • James
  • JT
  • Tyson
  • Russell

Ok, on to the episode:

**********  SPOILERS ***********

Two things I loved to start off the season.

  1. Having everyone come in on helicopters. That was badass.
  2. The first challenge.

The first challenge was pretty badass. Here are a couple observations:

  • I know Colby's 10 years older than he was when he was first on Survivor, but come on. You got out-worked and out-smarted and out-played by Coach! Unreal. Tyson's comments after that were super hilar.
  • JT is super awesome. I thought he was going to put Randy in an old school Boston Crab from WWF. I'd be surprised if he didn't have any wrestling background whatsoever. I feel like he probably wrestled in junior high or high school. I doubt he was good, but it looked like he at least kind of knew what he was doing.
  • You gotta give Sugar some props for getting her bra completely removed (she wasn't wearing a shirt to begin with)--so she's now completely topless--and instead of being a wuss about it--she sprints to the finish line for the win not even attempting to cover anything up. I'm sure people out there see each other naked all the time. But this was the very first episode / challenge.
  • James is a beast. Loved the stiff arm he used to win the challenge for his team. He has huge pecs:

Another thing, Russell is pretty awesome. I love how you can tell, without a doubt, how much he cares about the actual game. I really, really hope he does well in this. It would be a shame to see him go home early.

Sidenote: Vince asked me if I wanted to participate in a $40 squares-like Survivor pool. Basically, I get assigned one player from each team for $40. Before I agreed, I almost told Vince that I wouldn't play if I got Sugar. Obviously, I ended up randomly getting Sugar (and Randy...). Here's my email to him:

"Omg, I was going to say in my original reply to you that if I get Sugar I'm not playing. Haha that sucks. And Randy pretty much has a zero percent chance of winning. Urgh, that's $40 down the drain. My prediction, Sugar out tonight"

And that's what happened. Damn it. Now I have to root for Randy (who has pretty much zero chance of winning). Oh well. I'd rather see one of my faves win than Randy.

Alright I'll leave the rest of my comments / reactions to the Comments section.

What did you guys think about the first epi?
