As almost everyone knows by now, Google released a new service called Google Buzz yesterday. For those that don't know (or are still confused), it's a service integrated into Gmail that is similar to Facebook / Twitter as far as sharing links, photos, videos, etc goes. Here's the thing:
Google Buzz: Perfect for sharing links from Google Reader.
SunIsBlue.com: Used for sharing links I find from Google Reader.
The issue that I've found--related to this site--is that it's sooooooo much easier for me to share the links I find using Google Buzz. And since almost everyone I know uses Gmail, everyone is going to get those links automatically.
In other words, Google Buzz has rendered the main purpose of my site obsolete.
Obviously, I'm not going to shut down my site. So what now?
Well, the first thing is to see how well Google Buzz takes off. After Day 1, my guess is that it's going to be great for people like us (aka people not in college who don't use Facebook religiously--people who are more interested in posting links and commenting on those links). If I end up using Google Buzz (and Twitter) for most of my link sharing, what do I do with the site?
The answer to that question is: I use this site for posting actual articles / topics of discussion. Coincidentally, this is exactly what I've been doing with my 'Bachelor' posts. Yes, I know, that sucks for people that don't watch shows that I watch. But I could expand the posts to plenty of other things. And I think you guys need to start posting more as well. If you watch a show that I don't (Lost as of right now), you can post about that. Or if you want to post about other stuff non-TV-related, you can do that.
So that's what I'm thinking. Obviously, it's Day 2 of Google Buzz. So we'll see. And for those that don't know what Buzz is, here's a short video that should help:
I'd really appreciate your guys' thoughts on this.
